Bib Pimpin'

I don't think of this little storage solution as a craft project. It's more of a "Why didn't I think of this sooner?" moment.

I'm a fan of plastic bibs. Huge fan. I have clung to them ever since Luke started eating solid food. Have you ever tried to get carrot stains out of white cotton? I don't know about you, but I don't like bleaching things that hang close to my baby's face. Therefore plastic bibs rock my world.

To cut down on machine washings, I rinse the bib between meals. I also like to air dry the bib after machine washing to cut down on wear and tear. This leads me to my problem: where to hang dry the bib?

Sometimes I would hang it from the neck of the kitchen faucet, but that's completely in the way and often just keeps getting wet again.

Sometimes I hang it in the laundry closet. It's not a terrible solution, but I'd rather have something a little closer to where he eats. P.S. - I hoard those baby-sized clip hangers. They are perfect for line drying all sorts of delicates. And, um, speaking of delicates, just ignore mine.

Sometimes, if the bib is sopping wet, I hang it from my cabinet and let it drip into the sink. This actually works fairly well, but it's not a very elegant solution. Especially if I forget it's there and get a face full of wet bib, which does wonders for my hair. Heh.

This morning I was once again faced with the dilemma of where to hang the bib. Then it dawned on me: just put a hook on the side of the cabinet. Duh. I have no idea why this didn't occur to me sooner. So, just a few command strips later and I had the perfect place to dry a bib.

ta-da!

I even got fancy and put one on the other side for his other plastic bib. That's right readers. We're a two-bib family. Drink in the luxury.

So that's my a-trained-monkey-could-do-this, why-didn't-I-think-of-this-sooner project from this morning. Any stupidly simple projects going on at your house?

Luke's First Freckle

Today was an important milestone - Luke's first freckle!* To celebrate Luke and I had an impromptu photo shoot to celebrate. Nothing fancy, just some natural lighting and a sheet of white foam board for a back drop.

Truth be told, it might not be an actual freckle. Both Steven and I have lots of tiny, non-raised, freckle-esque moles so it's no surprise that Luke has one too.

After I captured the freckle in all its adorable glory, we had some fun making silly faces.

Also, I finally got a nice shot of his hair. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have proof he's not bald.

*Before the melanoma nazis start in, we always put sunscreen and a sun hat on him. So there.

Like Father Like Son

We've already talked about how Luke loves football just like his daddy. Another thing they have in common? A love for electronics. Specifically iPhones and iPads.

See.

Sorry it's blurry. This was the only shot that professes our family's love for Apple products.

"I love my electronics so much I just have to point at them."

"Hey, why is yours bigger than mine?"

"Yeah, I definitely want that one."

Aren't they adorable?

Breakfast Success

Every morning I get Luke up, change his clothes and make his breakfast. Every. Single. Morning. I refer to this as the Groundhog Day portion of my life.

His typical breakfast is baby oatmeal made with formula instead of plain water - yay nutrients! I also add some unsweetened apple sauce because plain baby oatmeal looks and tastes like paper machee paste. This morning I saw an over-ripe banana in the fruit bowl and thought it would make an excellent addition to his oatmeal. All I did was mash it a bit with a fork then I stirred it into his breakfast. I got rid of some about-to-go-bad- fruit and I introduced some texture to his food. It's a win-win!

11 Months!

This post is short and sweet. Luke is 11 months old today and to celebrate, let's all look at some pictures I took last night!

If only I could bottle that cuteness and use some of it on myself. *sigh*

You Guys Have Got To Get One Of These

In preparation for our upcoming family beach trip I bought a sun tent. I figured it would be easier to keep Luke out of the sun with a tent rather than an umbrella. After some online shopping and review reading, I settled on the Genji Sports Pop-Up Tent, priced at around $35. Folding it back up takes some getting used to, but I was immediately in love with setting it up. All you do is throw it, and it unfolds itself. Seriously. Then it only needs a few stakes to keep it in place.

Luckily for me, the tent came in the mail in time for our anniversary beach weekend, so we took the tent along for a test drive. I'm in love. The little tent is the perfect size for 2 (low to the ground) chairs, a cooler and a duffel bag or two. We did learn that the included stakes work well for dirt but don't work so hot in sand, so we're thinking about buying some snow/sand anchors.

Once we got home I realized our tent - purchased for beach trips and tailgating - makes an excellent outdoor play space for Luke (and me). Steven and I often bring Luke outside with us if we're working in the garden, and now we can easily keep him out of the sun and away from the grass he loves to eat so much. Since the tent is so easy to put up and take down, I won't hesitate to use it all the time.

So, that's my review. The tent is awesome and you should buy one or two for your next beach trip or backyard play session.

NOTE: No one paid me or gave me free stuff in return for my opinions.
OTHER NOTE: I have been trying to post this since Sunday, but Blogger was giving me all kinds of trouble. The problem was finally solved by switching from Internet Explorer to Firefox, which I now realize I should have done a long time ago. Why didn't you guys tell me Firefox is so much better? Nobody paid me to say that either.

Blond Boy

My little guy was born with some blond hair but it's recently started thickening up and getting fuzzy. It's so cute! Let's have a look, shall we?

No Luke, don't grab the camera.

The problem is Luke's hair is so thin and fine it is hard to capture in pictures. I started with some back lighting.

It's a good start. You can see how it's nice and thick in front. But he has this spiky part in the back that is pulling most of the weight in the cute department. Let's try another one with the flash on.

Eh, almost. You still can't really see the spiky part. One more with a dark background.

There it is! It's like a little blond rooster comb. Sorry it's blurry, but my subject is beyond wiggly. I just love that noggin!
